Carly

Carly is 8-months old, a golden/lab mix, weights 75lbs. She is housebroken and learns quickly. Is good with kids and dogs her size. She is dominant over smaller dogs so it would be best if she were in a home with no dogs or larger dogs. She is fixed and current on shots. I would like her to have a home with a fenced yard or acreage so she has room to run. She loves to be in the house with her family and I am a firm believer that dogs need to be part of the family and never chained in a yard.

Aslan

This cat is FULL of character despite the hideous condition in which he was living when I found him. He has now been treated for his ailments, got his rabies vaccination, and is receiving food and a nutritional supplement to bring health back to his skin and hair. (His new family will get all these medical records.) He deserves a great home where he can live out his life in safety and comfort. I will come visit your home with him to see if he is a good fit, and I will schedule and pay for one last medical appointment for him before he is transferred to you (he needs to be neutered and have his teeth pulled). About his character: talkative, snuggly, a LOUD purrer, inquisitive. If you have the heart and the room to give this funny boy a home and the love he deserves, please email me at ajburke424@yahoo.com. Include any questions and concerns you might have about taking in a senior cat.

Berkeley

Berkeley is a 2 year old, male, who loves to play and run. He’s a mix between a Yellow Lab and a Great Dane. He has a lot of energy, but loves to take a nice nap at the front door. Berkeley loves to go on runs, walks, and play catch. He can sit and shake. If you work more with him, I’m sure he can learn more tricks. Berkeley is great with other dogs. He loves to go to the dog park. His only issue is that he doesn’t realize his size. He thinks he’s small, like most Great Danes do. He’s a very loving and loyal dog. He needs a good home with someone who’s going to be able to exercise him, play with him and teach him new tricks. If you’re interested in adopting Berkeley, please contact Jamie Minks at Jamie.Minks@gmail.com.

Tucker

Tucker is a beautiful, intelligent male cat with a very distinct, quirky personality and no tail. He is approximately 8 years old. Some might call him hefty but, in his defense, he has a bigger-than-average frame. He was abused as a kitten by his first owner, and so he's a little skittish and doesn't always like to be touched, but he can also be very affectionate and loving. I would really like to find a lively, active home for him with a yard or porch. He's primarily indoors (the previous owner declawed him), but he loves being outdoors sometimes, too. He does not get along well with other cats or young children.

Tucker is also temporarily on some medication for some digestive issues.

Samson is a seven-year-old male cat who lives well with other dogs and cats.  He is neutered, is current on all his vaccinations, and has no health problems.  He has been de-clawed in all four paws, so he is very gentle on furniture!  He was a very lovable stray that we have had for many years.  We have taken in many wonderful animals over the years but are now will be moving to an apartment for awhile and need to find a permanent home for Samson.

The Community Pets Program

How are these animals available for adoption?
For various reasons, there are many pets needing new homes. Animals listed on this page are available through owners, finders, or other rescues. They are NOT CSC animals. Arrangements for adoption of these animals will NOT be within the CSC system, but they will be made privately between the current owner and the adopter. CSC makes no claims as to knowledge of history, temperament, or suitability of any of these animals. Further, CSC will not be responsible for re-homing the animal in case of a failed adoption. We are simply providing a way for people to get the word out to the public.
Are there any requirements to have an animal listed?
Animals MUST be spayed or neutered. Animals MUST be current with shots. These animals will NOT be shown at CSC facilities. CSC is not responsible for these animals in any way, and therefore, does not have any expenses nor any need to charge an adoption fee.
How do I add an animal to these courtesy listings?
Those wishing to list an animal on this page must contact us at columbiasecondchance@hotmail.com to list: animal's name, sex, breed (or mix), vet clinic and vet phone number, and personal contact information. (To do this without internet service, stop by our Adoption Center to request a form to fill out.) When the vet status of the animal has been verified, an email will be sent or a phone call will be made confirming this and a request will be made for a picture and biography of the animal.
How can I adopt one of these animals?
Please use the contact information provided by the owner/finder/rescue. All arrangements are made privately, outside of the CSC process. However, please let us know the happy outcome when an animal has been re-homed, so we can remove the listing. .

Ozzie & Gizmo

Ozzie (yellow dog) and Gizmo (brown dog) are brothers.  They were born on June 2, 2008.  Their mother is a black boxer/pit mix.  It is believed that their father is a German Shepard/Chow mix.  Both dogs are proud survivors of parvo.  Ozzie is a sweet, loveable dog.  He loves to play tug of war with a rope.  Gizmo is also a sweet, lovable dog.  He loves to run after a ball and to be chased while he has the ball.  Both dogs love to run and play.  They also like to play fight with each other.  They play rough, but have never hurt each other.  They love people, but are not fans of other animals.  They would love to stay together if possible since they have been together all their life, but would adjust if they had to be separated.  The only reason I'm looking for a home for them is because I'm divorced and can't take them with me when the house sells.

Sasha

Sasha is a very friendly, energetic happy dog.  She's approximately three years old, yellow lab mix, approximately 50 pounds.  Received full vaccinations in October of this year.  She is used to living outside in the woods and loves to run.  She sometimes is a bit boisterous, but nevertheless is easy to train and will be obedient.  Sasha is being put up for adoption because a death in our family has made our circumstances such that keeping her is not an option.  She is a wonderful dog, and we really want her to find an excellent home with kind, animal-loving folks.  Hopefully, in a situation where she will be able to have lots of time outside to run and play.

Lacey

Lacey is a very affectionate and energetic 2-3 year old pit bull / boxer mix (53 lbs). She has been checked by a vet, is in excellent health and has been vaccinated. She is crate and leash trained (and we believe house trained, but we have not done extended time indoors not crated) and loves walks and car rides. She has interacted well with the few dogs her size she has met, and his highly tolerant of our small dogs (even with them jumping all over her). We are just beginning to train her to wait to walk through doors, wait on food and basic commands (i.e. sit), but she is catching on very quickly. We are currently fostering her and would love to find her a forever home.

Cypree

Cypree has many wonderful pit bull qualities – happy, loyal, loving, intelligent, strong, playful, silly, inquisitive, energetic, and of course absolutely beautiful! She is an INSIDE DOG and must go to a home where she will not be chained or live outside. She would to best in a home with a FENCED YARD, unless her new family is committed to exercise her a lot each day. I think NO KIDS or ONLY OLDER KIDS would be best, as she could unintentionally knock the little ones down when she wants to play. Cypree knows simple commands and is crate trained.  During the day she stays alone in my bedroom and is just fine.  She is completely housetrained.  She will allow humans to touch her all over and to rub her belly, so she has been brought up to be very docile in this way.  She knows the difference between dog toys and people things (e.g., shoes). Cypree lives well with my own two dogs. If Cypree’s new adopter lives near Columbia Missouri, I have a friend who is a dog trainer who has offered to help Cypree be introduced to a new dog pack, so that would be something we could arrange if anyone would like help with that.

Cooper

Cooper is neutered and is current on his shots. He is the sweetest cat I have ever met.  He loves being around people and follows me from room to room. If he had opposing thumbs, I bet he would clean out his own litter box. Cooper loves going outside but will come home when called. He understands the word no and responds appropriately. Cooper is a great cat and deserves a great home.

Chaos

Hi, my name is Chaos and I am a six year old mixed breed with a puppy mentality.  I am a sweet dog who would be a great addition to a home with older children or no children at all (as I am too rambunctious for young kids).  I currently have a beagle brother, whom I get along with very well, but I would be just as happy as an only dog.  I am completely housebroken, I know simple commands (sit, drop-down, high-five), and I am good on a leash.  I am crate-trained (which my family will include if you wish), but I do very well loose in the house as well.  I am around 40 lbs, neutered and my shots are up to-date.  My family got me from a shelter so I may take a little while to warm up, but once I do I am very loyal and loving.  I have been in a very loving environment for over 6 years and am very well adjusted.

Kirby is super affectionate large DMH neutered male cat who was found in Old Mill Creek subdivision.  Has been checked by a vet and was vaccinated.  He is approximately 5 - 6 years old, 12 - 13 pounds.  Given his large frame and furry paws he may have some Maine Coon as part of his DNA.  While we love him dearly we would love to find him his own forever home.

Lucy

Lucy is a 4-year old Lab/Shepherd mix.  She is approximately 75 lbs.  Lucy is spayed and up to date on her shots.  She is a very good dog, well behaved but lots of energy.  She needs to have a yard to run in and/or walked daily.  She loves to play ball and run.  She is an indoor pet and house trained.  She is also kennel trained.  We have two small boys that she is awesome with.  She has never shown agression towards children or adults.  We have 2 cats as well, that she is good with and has never shown agression towards.  The only problem we have had is with our other dog.  We hate to get rid of her but feel it is best for all involved.
